GEOFF LONG

As a professional musician & teacher Geoff Long has introduced a number of unique keyboard education programmes:

Adult Education Organ Classes, Adult Education Keyboard Classes, Children's Holiday Piano, Organ & Keyboard Classes, Senior Citizens Organ Classes and Organ Holiday Weekends.

Geoff studied the Piano & Organ in both traditional and contemporary modes.

Apart from private teaching activities, he has taught for the Adult Education (TAFE) since 1972. He has played promotional concerts/demonstrations in most areas of Tasmania, also appearing on local television, local & interstate radio. Other performance experiences have been in church music and small band work, more recently the popular ballroom dancing area.

When the Conn Organ Corporation conducted their Retail Sales School in Australia in 1979, Geoff was the top graduate. He has also attended Contemporary Organ Teaching Seminars by Evelyn Terrell (USA) and Sue Woodland (QLD).

Geoff is an Associate Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute, a Teacher Member of both the Council of Music & Drama and the Organ & Piano Teachers Association. Geoff has an Advanced Diploma of Marketing and is presently completing a Batchelor of Business with majors in marketing and International Business. Outside business hours his interests include family activities, sports administration & participation, YMCA, theatres & theatre organs, Hobart's history, quiz teaming and personal computers.

THE LONG FAMILY - A Part Musical History

1890s - James G Long began playing the trumpet & conducting professionally at 13 years of age. His first charge being the Hobart Juvenile Orchestra, next the Hobart Model Brass Band and then the Hobart Juvenile Brass Band - often conducting musical afternoons at St David's Park Rotunda. At only 25 years of age he was Bandmaster of the West Coast Waratah Brass Band.

1914 - The Long family (3 brothers & 2 sisters) were the resident orchestra at the Palace Theatre & Prince Theatre Hobart.

1955 - Jim Long (son of James G Long) after 30 years with McCann Bros, together with Edna Long & IMIT (London) graduate Reginald Langlois founded the firm known later as Long, Langlois & Johnstone (LL&J). Jim Long was a well known Church Organist & Choirmaster. Later partners in the firm were Lindsay Johnstone, Ian Long & Geoff Long.

1963 - LL&J commenced Conn Organ marketing. 1972 - ETM Organ Class Method introduced.

1976 - LL&J are granted the Bosendorfer Piano agency. 1977 - LL&J build State's largest Piano & Organ showroom.

1979 - LL&J receive Australia's top Conn Organ Dealer Award.

1982 - LL&J: granted the agency for the world famous Japanese manufacturer KAWAI.

1989 - LL&J: receive KAWAI Award for Sales Excellence.

1992 - LL&J receive KAWAI Award for a Decade of Sales Excellence.

1992 - Geoff Long Music was established and another generation of the Long Family carry on the musical traditions.

1999 - Kawai Music School programmes in association with the International School of Music (ISM) commenced.

2000 - New purpose designed air-conditioned Kawai Music School classroom is added to our facilities in North Hobart.

2001 - Geoff Long Music Website Created.

2001 - Additional air-conditioned classroom added.

2007 - Two new music studios added.

2009 - Free Adult 'Piano for Pleasure" classes introduced.
